§Try out Hay(na)ku or Haiku Tom Beckett & “Hay(na)Ku”

Latent

in a

weary mind: a

lust

for discontentment

to break up

monotony

of comfort.

Pleasure grows dull

with

consistency, fades

from our palates

when

we sip

at each meal.

So

we knock

glasses over, watch

the

sweetness spill

down, pangs of

longing

and relief

dripping to the

floor

where we

greedily wipe them

up,

just to

touch, but not

drink,

each time

cursing and praising

our

clumsiness. This

craving for dissatisfaction,

calmed,

but lingering

well past dinnertime,

into

bed with

us and a

plush,

settling warmth.

Even resting, though,

no

respite from

our wanting; as

martyrs

for our

own sake, we

sleep

on pillows

made of stone.
